This opinion is based simply on the assessment criteria by USSF. There are some game critical moments here that are not looking good. What sop others think?

I did find this www.ussoccer.com/Referees/Resource-Cente...-Referee-Course.aspx as well as this www.epsarc.org/Programs-Events-Copy which breaks out Referee Grade Indoor/Futsal. I was looking for the class info to start with.

This is old school stuff. Nobody fails an assessment in youth soccer matches. We are trying to improve refs, not beat them down. You let the refs know what they did well and give them no more than three things to work on. Everybody else at the match is ready to tell the referee they failed --...

I would want to know why it took so long to show a card. We do not see what color but I would hope he showed a red card. If not I would have a discussion why it should have been red. I would also like to know why he seemed to not care about the injuried player on the ground.

Should a referee's assessment be affected, and if so how much, when he affects the match this much, due to POOR POSITIONING (as he should be backpedalling here)?

I would be very disappointed with any assessor who dinged the ref on this one. There was no more than a quarter second between the keeper's kick and the contact with the referee. No real chance to evade. And let's not forget that, whether intentional or not, the keeper kicked the ball to/at the...

I have never refereed futsal before but looking ahead of this winter I think I might take a course and get certified to. The one thing I'm nervous about is, I have been around outdoor soccer all my life, so I've known rules since day one, and futsal I haven't been around as much. Any tips or...

I find it easier to referee by myself when reffing futsal. You don't have to run much. No offsides, everything is almost always 4 seconds. You'll learn from your course and the more you ref the more comfortable you become. Certain house leagues have a sort of minimal contact rule. Floor is hard...

In PA the requirements for upgrading to a grade 7 have changed and I don't really understand them. Specifically the game requirements. It says you need 10 centers of approved level or grade but never tells you what the approved level is. Here is a link to the requirements and maybe one of you would...

Honestly, I can't answer that question because I haven't seen what else he did during the match. As an assessor, we are told to consider the entire performance. Did he do other things in this match that were very good? We don't know from this video. He might have done some really nice things that...

I'm in the 50/50 camp on agreement with calls/no calls. The thing we don't get from this edited video is the time during the match where these took place. Was he tight to start and then loosened up or loose to start and then tightened up. The hands to hips sign is offside in HS. The players...

9 is not only studs up but both legs off the ground flying tackle. That is an ankle breaker for sure. In NO way was that a safe tackle. Yes he got ball, but that is definitely reckless at best in my opinion

It's fairly easy to do the test on your own in as far as managing the timekeeping....either download the track onto your device of choice, or set up a timer (I use an app called Seconds Pro that lets you set up specific interval timers, complete with a title for that section. Very useful.)

USSF has been changing their grade breakdowns for the past couple years now. Grade 8 is meant to be youth matches and where most referees start their career. So it would make sense to have the grade 8 test be more LOTG heavy. Grade 7 is the amateur adult game, which requires more management than the...

You have to get to know the assignor and make sure they know you are the person that wants this level of game and they will test you a bit lower and see how you fair and if you impress them and they get good feedback they will surely move you up in due time.

I would try to do USSF games where you are going to college. A really good way to get higher level games is to ask older referees before the game to look to see what you can work on and ask them about it after the games. If they like what they see and know to look for it they can pass along positive...
